How to Qualify for a Driver’s License in WY
Automobile License
Do you want to drive in Wyoming? You are obliged to obtain a driver’s license first. Similar to other US states, Wyoming has the Graduated Licensing Program, which is meant to help drivers get the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully pass their driving exams.
The Graduated Licensing Program in West Virginia includes three stages:
- Learner’s permit. You are eligible for applying once you are 15. You are obliged to submit your parent’s permission, bring in your identification documents and SSN and present proofs of US citizenship and residency. You will be asked to pass a WY written permit test and vision screening. The permit fee is $20;
- Intermediate driver’s license. You are eligible to apply as soon as you are 16 and have kept your learner’s permit for 10 days. Note that you will be asked to present a driving log with 50 hours of practice driving, including 10 hours of driving after dark. You’ll also have to undergo vision and driving tests. At this level, you will need your parent’s permission too;
- Full driver’s license. You can qualify when you reach 17 and have kept your intermediate driver’s license for at least half a year. Make sure to provide your identification docs, a certificate of your driver training course enrollment and an intermediate driver’s license. The licensing fee is $20.
Motorcycle License
To qualify for a motorcycle license in Wyoming, you are obliged to satisfy the following requirements:
- provide your identification documents and SSN;
- complete a written WY driver knowledge test;
- pass the on-road test;
- pay a $3 fee for your motorcycle endorsement.
Apart from some basic driver training, you will also need to enroll in the training program from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. This organization offers two courses: Basic Rider Course and Experienced Rider Course, both of which help you perfect your motorcycle driving skills.
Commercial Driver’s License
If you plan to operate a commercial vehicle in WY, you are obliged to earn a commercial driver’s license. The common requirements are as follows:
- being 18 years old;
- submitting proofs of US residency and citizenship and SSN;
- already having a Wyoming driver’s license;
- successfully passing a driving history check;
- presenting a medical certificate.
If you meet these requirements, you are allowed to qualify for a commercial learner’s permit. The next step is passing a written test. If you succeed, you will be given a commercial learner’s permit, which then enables you to arrange for a driving test (the permit fee is $25). The fee for taking a driving test is $40.
Upon passing your driving test successfully, you will be issued a commercial driver’s license. The licensing fee is $25.

While the sales of manual cars in the USA have been decreasing significantly since the 90s, stick shifts are still popular in European and Asian countries, especially in developing economies, which is often explained by the price. Undeniably, vehicles with manual transmission are usually cheaper than automatics, but this is hardly the only reason for choosing a manual car. Experts and auto enthusiasts hold that driving a manual vehicle allows the driver to gain a completely new experience that is appreciated by drivers. They highlight the fact that many powerful sports cars come with manual transmissions and this is done for a reason – you can better feel the car and the speed while gaining full control over the gears. For the same reason, driving a manual car can be safer in winter with its slippery roads, but this also depends on your driving skills.
