Useful Guidance through Washington DOL Requirements
Automobile License
The Washington Department of Licensing issues driver licenses for persons, who are over 16, but it’s possible to get an instruction permit, if a person is at least 15. Prior to learning WA permit test questions, an applicant has to decide whether he/she is going to attend a driver course. If yes, then the WA DOL doesn’t require passing the permit knowledge exam, since the testing is carried out within the following application process. Note that teenagers under 15 ½ can’t get the permit without enrolling in a training course. Also, minors who choose to skip a driver course will not be able to get a DL until they turn 18. In summary,
- if you are signed up for a course, authorized persons send a waiver to the WA DMV and you get the permit without exams;
- if you are not signed up, you have to learn permit exam questions and to undergo the testing at a WA State Licensing location (at least 32 correct answers out of 40 questions are required).
Though the permit examination questions are not introduced in the Washington Driver Guide, they can be found on Driver-start.com along with helpful tools for online permit test training.
Note that in addition to the testing, the Washington state DOL requires:
- to undergo eye and medical examinations;
- to pay corresponding fees;
- to bring a legal guardian (for minors only).
Earning the permit, persons who are between 16 and 18 may move further to receiving an Intermediate DL.
Washington State DOL Demands for Motorcycle License
To legally ride on WA public roads, one has to obtain a corresponding permit or endorsement:
- 3 endorsement for 2-wheel motorcycles;
- 5 endorsement for 3-wheeled cycles;
- 7 endorsement for both types.
Both permit and endorsement are available for persons who are over 16 and hold a valid WA DL. The Washington DOL allows passing motorcycle knowledge and road tests either through an approved motorcycle course or testing/training provider. A person can practice Washington state motorcycle test using Driver Start tools and the state Manual published on the website. Also, owners of mobile devices can practice online permit exam for motorcycle permit or endorsement using a specific Driver Start app.
Commercial Driver License
The Washington state DOL issues 3 classes of Commercial Driver’s License and 6 endorsements for persons who are over 18 (21 for interstate transportation) and have a valid DL earned in the state. An applicant has to provide a required package of documents, to pay corresponding fees, to learn WA permit test questions using the CDL Manual, and to pass the knowledge testing. Prior to the testing, it would be clever to practice online permit examination on Driver-start.com. When this is done and the learner’s permit is obtained, the person can obtain behind-the-wheel experience to get prepared for a road examination.
Tests are available on the website and on App Store and Google Play
